Lillehammer Dialogue City

Lillehammer Dialogue City is a call for action by Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, to promote and facilitate dialogue, build peace, and prevent armed conflicts and war.

The conference

On June 19 – 23, 2018, dialogue practitioners, researchers, government officials, donors and community leaders will gather for a week long conference, where they will explore how dialogue can help solve and prevent conflicts.

Around the world, dialogue workers and participants are working towards inclusive communities. Through transforming conflicts and establishing communication and relationships, communities in conflict or post-conflict can find a way forward for all. The 2018 Lillehammer Dialogue City conference will be their venue.

Why a Dialogue City?

Through our more than twenty years of dialogue work, we have learnt that dialogue is an essential component to peace processes. Unfortunately, peace processes  do often not include dialogue between the people in the affected communities.

Our goal with Lillehammer Dialogue City is to create an arena for dialogue workers and participants from all over the world. We wish to provide a safe space where people can exchange views and experiences, learn from each other and offer guidance about the use of dialogue in peacebuilding.

Lillehammer as a dialogue space

The city and surroundings of Lillehammer has been an important part of our dialogue processes since the very beginning. The peaceful atmosphere and beautiful nature give room for reflection and respectful conversations. Lillehammer is also rich in culture, has experience with large international events and is a friendly place.
